Good news for all cyclists in Hérault! The network of bike paths around the Étang de Thau continues to grow in 2026. At Artimon Bike, we’re closely following these developments that will make your bike rides even more enjoyable and safe. Here’s what’s new this year! 🚴♀️
🎯 The big project: 80 km of inter-municipal bike paths
The Agglomération Hérault Méditerranée has launched an ambitious plan: create a network of 80 kilometers of bike lanes connecting all the towns in the area. The main framework is now fully operational!
What’s already in place
✅ Agde - Pézenas connection: Fully developed
✅ Marseillan Plage - Portiragnes: 15 km along the Canal du Midi
✅ Agde - Bessan: From the train station to the Guinguette
✅ Towpath: Completely revamped from Marseillan-Plage
💡 Artimon Bike tip: All our guided routes include these new secure paths. Perfect for families!
🆕 The big 2026 news: Sète and Montpellier connected!
This is THE news all cyclists in the region are buzzing about: since summer 2025 (confirmed for 2026), you can now link Sète to Montpellier entirely via greenway!
The small stretch that changes everything
The Hérault Department has completed a crucial 2 km segment in Poussan connecting two major cycling loops:
- 🔵 The Étang de Thau loop (70 km)
- 🔵 The greenway towards Montpellier
The result? You can now start from Marseillan, circle the Étang, and continue all the way to Montpellier without ever leaving a bike path! 🎉

2. Plan your breaks
The new paths go through beautiful villages:
- Mèze: Lunch break by the water
- Bouzigues: Oyster tasting (a must!)
- Sète: Mont Saint-Clair and tielle sétoise (local specialty)
3. Start early in summer
Paths offer little shade by the lagoon. Best to:
- Leave between 8 and 9 am in summer
- Or late afternoon (4 to 5 pm)
4. Download the maps
- Hérault Tourism cycling map
- Archipelago of Thau itineraries
- Apps: Komoot or Geovelo
🌟 Upcoming projects (2026-2027)
The network keeps improving! Here’s what’s planned:
Short term (2026)
- 🔧 Better signage across the network
- 🚲 New rest areas with water points
- 🅿️ Secure bike parking (stations, beaches)
Mid term (2027)
