How to Prepare for a Family Bike Ride

Complete Guide for a Successful Family Bike Outing

Going on a family bike ride around the Étang de Thau is an excellent way to create unforgettable memories while discovering the beauty of Languedoc. Here are our professional tips to make your outing a total success.

Choosing the Right Route Based on Children's Ages

Your children's age and experience determine the route choice. Here are our recommendations, tested and approved by hundreds of families:

Children 3-5 Years Old

  • Maximum distance: 5 to 10 km
  • Duration: 1 to 2 hours (with frequent breaks)
  • Terrain: exclusively flat, secure bike paths
  • Our recommendation: Greenway Marseillan-Plage → Onglous Lighthouse (3 km one way)

Children 6-9 Years Old

  • Distance: 10 to 20 km
  • Duration: 2 to 3 hours
  • Terrain: flat to slightly hilly
  • Our recommendation: Mèze loop (12 km) or Canal du Midi to Agde (13 km)

Children 10+ Years Old

  • Distance: up to 30 km
  • Duration: half-day to full day
  • Terrain: varied
  • Our recommendation: Marseillan → Sète (22 km) with bus return
